Blackjack Table, Dealer and Player Rules

The Blackjack Table Rules

  1. Placing Bets

All players at the table must get all of their bets in before any card is dealt while playing live dealer blackjack or blackjack offline. During an online blackjack, this rule won’t apply, since players control when their cards are dealt.

  1. Hard / Soft Hands

Any hand that has an Ace is considered a soft hand, as players can change the total value of the ace from 11 to 1. A hard hand, on the other hand, is one with an authority which can’t be counted as an 11 or doesn’t contain an ace at all. In the end, it offers less flexible value with the option to hit.

  1. Odds/Payout

In regular blackjacks, getting a 21 pays out 3:2, which is usually indicated on the table. However, there are other blackjack variations in which landing a blackjack pays 1:1, to offset some rules which are more favourable to the players.

The Blackjack Dealer Rules

  1. Don’t Hand Bets to the Dealer

When placing Bets, the right process is putting one’s chips on the table. Though the dealers may be happy to help you, they can’t place chips on anyone’s behalf.

  1. Hard / Soft 17

In standard blackjack, the Dealer stands if and when their hand is equal to 17 or higher, though they will hit on a soft 17. In case the Dealer’s hand contains an ace, and this ace is worth between 17 and 21, they’ll stand. In some variations, however, dealers stand on all hands that are worth 17 or more.

  1. Don’t forget to tip your Dealer.

Most of us know how dealers in reputable land-based casinos are well paid, especially in the United States, but tipping still is expected. We don’t expect you to tip the RNG (Random Number Generator) which is responsible for powering your game of online blackjack. However, nothing is stopping you from tipping a deserved dealer.

The Blackjack Player Rules

  1. Leave Face Up Card the Way They Are

It would help if you learned to leave face-up cards alone. Fidgety or nervous players may feel inclined to flip, rotate, or fiddle with their cards. It isn’t something that will be well received in land-based casinos, where players don’t need to disrupt cards that have been dealt face up already.

  1. Handle Cards with One Hand Only

Notable casinos are usually concerned about players messing with their cards and using both hands to hand the dealt cards. So, handle the cards with your dominant hand and don’t pick cards from the table.

  1. Signal and Say your decision

Signals are always appreciated especially with casino security camera operator. It also helps to avoid errors that popup from confusion at the table.

  1. Don’t take too long

Don’t waste too much time. It’s okay to take some time before making a decision. What you should avoid is pussyfooting while making a decision. Dragging your feet for no good reason as this would mostly distract the table. If you are playing in a land-based or online casino with other players, make your next move in time.
